Why Should I Consider Therapeutic Massage?

A growing number of men and women find therapeutic massage to be a valuable addition to their health and fitness routines. It has been found that massage as a natural means can promote healthy body function and enhance the body’s own restorative powers.

Some people seek massage for general relaxation, revitalization, relief from sore or tight muscles, relief from tension headaches, recovery from injuries, reduction of anxiety or stress, improvement of cellular nutrition and to stop the pain-spasms-pain cycle. Many other people seek massage to improved circulation, to counter general health concerns, lessen effects of aging or to complete their fitness or health routines and speed recoveries. This therapy is becoming a more commonly acknowledged compliment to healthcare along with others such as Acupuncture and Chiropractic.

Nerves, blood vessels, and meridians, trigger points, are around, in, on and can be in between muscles throughout the body. When an area is not working correctly due to it being restricted, constricted, tight, unused, knotted, or harmed, you may suffer from permanent or temporary tissue, DNA or cell damage. Tissue damage or lack of proper function affecting the 4 essentials of life, those being food, water, air, nerve impulse. Those essentials can affect more than just muscles due to such minor things, as a bruise or a knot. Sometimes a muscle not working properly can effect another area loosely connected. Some of the back muscles may pull SI joints or cause compression of other vertebra and can lead to liver, kidney or other disease, and cancer if not addressed.

When something is wrong, and it goes away suddenly, don’t believe the problem has corrected itself. Your concern should be properly examined by someone that knows more about the initial complaint. Letting things go can and has been shown to be the cause of many diseases, un-reversible illnesses or health problems seen in life as you age. Pain medicine is not a fix for a problem, it only masks it. Some things as simple such as how we hold are bodies posture during sitting at work or if we hold our shoulders and pelvis in unnatural ways to impress. Many conditions prevent cellular debris or waste, blood and fluid flow from being normal in areas effected. Movement is how blood returns to the heart. Problems such as chronic joint pain or blood clots or general pain can result. Complaints may grow and include being always sore, feeling a pinch, damage or break down causing less than optimal function.  Or even a misalignment of the hips, shoulders, neck, back that result in requiring replacements through surgery or improper walking and incorrect foot arches and pain. Everything is connected underneath our wonderful beautiful and protective skin.

Sometimes the precursors to major disease may be unknown without proper knowledge so feel free to ask or become informed. These issues if left uncorrected will prevent improvements, recovery or lead to diseases needing to be treated by possibly harmful pills for conditions only partially known about by health professions which treat the symptom instead of the cause.

A Licensed Massage Therapist has the ability to determine what treatments are best for you based on your conditions, complaints, physical health and many other factors communicated by you before a therapeutic session.

There are many types of massage therapists and they use a range of approaches, techniques and styles. The two most common styles of massage are traditional Swedish massage, and Oriental bodywork.

Some people prefer a very light massage while other people, such as athletes or people with knotted muscles or issues which arise from a very active lifestyle require deep tissue sculpting.

Some indication or discoveries may require getting below the surface muscles to address skeletal muscles. Sometimes people leave from a session and for the next few days, feel more sore or tired than before so always take an Epson salt bath after a massage session. This may be due to release of built up fluid, toxins/cellular waste held in muscles, energy blockage dispersed or the process of rebuilding and natural function returning to an area. The human body is very complicated and many areas overlap. Some areas require a gentle kneading while others require forcing muscles aside or stretching and pushing toward their attachment points.

In more recent times, earlier forms of massage such as heated massage or circulatory massage have returned and can be administered in many ways. Working to address the core muscles and areas of blood flow with massage is one. Some therapists use essential oils, liniments of different preference, some therapists will use heating oils or crèmes and others are trained in techniques such as use of hot rocks or Oriental cupping techniques. You should try a few of these alternatives and see what works best for you.

HOW MASSAGE HELPS: Massage balances the effects of stress in our lives by reducing tension headaches, reducing anxiety level and restores a calm mind and feeling of well-being.  Or by finding the areas that may cause another area to hurt or be tight.

The gluteal muscles are the three muscles that make up the buttocks: the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minimus. The most common symptom for sciatica/ pain arise from these or smaller muscles deeper inside the pelvic region. All those muscles can also be the cause of lower back pain. Numbness or a deep, severe pain that starts low on one side of the back and then shoots down the buttock and down a strip of the leg with certain movements or constantly. Since the sciatic and other nerves  run down the leg under your buttocks, the thigh and the entire lower leg and foot, it's not unusual to suffer from pain down the leg. Massage therapy is valuable treatment for back pain.

Foot and Hand Massage/Reflexology: The foot and or hand have over 70,000 nerve endings with reflexology & trigger points that correlate to the whole body. We spend a larger part of the day on our feet which carries the weight of the rest of our bodies . We use our hands to help touch, feel, move and relate to the world. So a treatment to them is a great therapy for your body and helps reduce stress and assists in relaxation for better health. Benefits for you will be to ease your tension, pain and other ailments. An increased in blood circulation which in turn  rejuvenates and also cleanses you. Massaging tired aching feet and hands almost always relaxes and relieves the aches and pains and helps ease your tension, and other ailments. Reducing stress levels helps the body in many ways such as mentally and physically.
